Michael Wolff
Mortgage Broker — Go Rascal, Inc.
I’ve been originating purchase loans for over 20 years. Before the 2008 financial crisis. Through it. Through the recovery, the rate run-up, and every market cycle since. I’ve seen enough to know what actually matters in a mortgage transaction — and what’s just noise.
In 2020, my family and I packed up after two decades in Los Angeles and moved to Apex, North Carolina. Best decision we ever made.

Why I Do This the Way I Do
I have a background in engineering, which probably explains why I approach a mortgage the way I do — I work through the numbers, I don’t shy away from complicated situations, and I give you a straight answer about what’s actually possible. Most lenders sell. I solve problems.
I’m a broker, not a bank. That distinction matters more than most people realize. Banks can only offer their own products. As a broker, I have access to dozens of wholesale lenders — which means I can shop rates and programs across the market rather than fitting every buyer into one institution’s product lineup.
My approach is built around education, not sales. Most of the people I work with are making the largest financial commitment of their lives. They deserve to understand what they’re agreeing to — the loan type, the rate structure, the closing costs, the long-term implications. I spend more time on the front end of the process than most lenders do precisely because an informed buyer makes better decisions and has fewer surprises at the closing table.
I don’t run a high-volume factory operation. I work with a manageable number of clients at a time so I can actually be responsive when it matters.
What I Specialize In
Where I’m Licensed
I’m licensed in North Carolina, California, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia. My primary market is the NC Triangle — Raleigh, Apex, Cary, Durham, Chapel Hill — where I live and know the market firsthand.
A Bit More About Me
I moved to Apex in 2020 with my wife and two kids after 20 years in Los Angeles. We made the decision at the start of the COVID pandemic. North Carolina delivered on everything we were looking for: better schools, more space, a slower pace, and a community that actually felt like one.
I’ve been in mortgage since before the 2008 crisis. I survived it, watched a lot of colleagues leave the industry, and came out with a much clearer sense of what responsible lending actually looks like. I don’t put people in loans they can’t sustain. I don’t maximize loan size for the sake of a larger commission.
Outside of work: two kids, one dog, a commute-free lifestyle, and the best decision I ever made living in the Peak City.
